In "Let's Put Put Pornography Back in the Closet"(1979) Susan Brownmiller argues that there should be restrictions on public displays of pornography. Brownmiller presents her argument strongly by providing lots of solid evidence and making valid statements. She writes this persuasive essay in order to convince her audience that the first amendment was not made to protect pornography and that porn has negative effects on society. Susan Brownmiller's intended audience is people who may have opposing or similar views.

My first impression of reading the title was just that it was going to talk about why porn is bad. After reading this piece I agree with her that pornography does in fact degrade the female body and many guys just turn to porn to fulfill their sexual desires. I also agree with her that the first amendment shouldn't protect pornography in public places because I feel like it should just be a private matter and not a public one. Even though I think pornography is bad, it is still a business as people do in fact make money off of it. But I still think people shouldn't join the pornography business due to the fact that viewers might degrade them.

The author, Susan Brownmiller, explains her views on pornography and why it should not be protected under the First Amendment. She uses societal standards of feminism and facts from the U.S. constitution to support her claims on pornography.  Brownmiller views pornography as degrading to women by it devaluing them physically and encourages"sexual masochism". She stated that,"We are unalterably opposed to the presentation of the female body being stripped, bound, raped, tortured, mutilated, and murdered in the name of commercial entertainment and free speech"(Brownmiller p9). In summary, Brownmiller wants pornography to be less widespread so it can limit the negative  affects it has to over the mental aspect of women today.
