Writing is something that has always come naturally to me, so I never put a large amount of effort into it. But English 1101 helped to realize that skipping out on tools such as the writing process and relying on my naturals skills wasn't going to cut it. Through lots of practice, class activities, and work 1101 helped me to strengthen my evaluation, analyzation, and planning skills. At the beginning of English 1101 I remember my professor breaking down the writing process and explaining the importance of each step. All of the brainstorming activities we did in class helped me to further understand how important that step was. But ultimately, writing multiple papers throughout the semester forced me to go through the whole process. For example when having to submit a rough and final draft that were required to be significantly different, I had no choice but to go through a step I usually skipped. It was initial hard to break my habit, but by the end if the semester I saw that I had improved tremendously in the areas of the writing process I struggled with. When it came to evaluating and analyzing text, coming into 1101 I didn't have that much experience. So when we started a had a bit of trouble but the tools Dr. Greene showed the class were a huge help. For example she always told us to never read a piece of text once. Read it over and over until you form somewhat of an understanding. Also using context clues to helped me figure out certain areas I did not understand. Through the multiple reading we did within the semester, my analyzation skills were strengthened.  When it came to writing about what I had analyzed, I was forced to organized my thoughts and learn how to put them together cohesively. Something that helped me a lot was taking notes while reading. So by the time I was done I had a sort of outline to follow. The skills that I gained during my time in English 1101 have been a large help in the other courses I have taken. I know they will further aid me during the rest of my college carrier but also in the business world.

English has always been a class I dreaded. Writing never came easy for me and I soon became doing the bare minimum for each assignment. Making average grades in each course and not seeking improvement. However, through English 1101 my skills as a writer sky-rocketed. Learning how to use different techniques to further my growth and to strengthen my writing. Breaking down the simple aspects of English aided me in understanding the principles and how to apply them to my writing. Also my instructor, Dr. Harwood, was a great help during this course. Supporting and encouraging us whenever we were stuck during an assignment. I improved dramatically with this course, bettering myself with the writing process, rhetorical appeals, citing correctly, and many more of the various topics within this course.

When I first started taking English 101, I was uncertain if I would know everything that was learned in the classroom because of my prior high school English classes. In certain ways, I was right, but when it comes to English grammar, high school teachers seem to think that students still remember all the key details and important facts of grammar and that we don't need to be reworked. Some of the aspects that have been the highlight of the class all the time have been recognizing who we are writing to alongside genres, experiencing a group setting in our writing process, learning our strengths and shortcomings in writing, and examining our own opinion of our personal essays in this course. Being a dual enrolled student and taking my first college English class, I learned so much and became a better writer. I feel as things were hard, but it only pushed me to my best.

English was always a subject I struggled with especially in school. I easily got confused in class, but I always tried my best to improve on the subject. Throughout middle and high school my grades improved and so did my understanding of the subject. As I took English 1101, I felt that my analytical thinking, writing, and communicating skills improved. With the weekly assignments that tasked me with interpreting themes and messages of literature,  my analytical thinking improved. Also, the essays I had to write in that class improved my writing and communicating skills by writing and critiquing essays. As I finished English 1101, I believe a became a better writer in general.
